Visiting an ancient city
On our travels back up through North Thailand on our way into Laos we’ve already managed to spend longer than planned taking it all in. On the way up to Chiang Mai we managed to take a break and visit the ancient city of Sukhothai, once the capital of the great Sukhothai Empire. The site boasted a series of Wats (temples) and such and was a nice break even after a few days back in Bangkok. I hope the pictures do it justice as it really was lovely.

A sense of forboding hangs… rain clouds are good for a sense of drama at least

Things seem to have brightened up here.

Buddah looks fairly happy despite the pigeons.

Stuppa…fied?

We rode around the site on bicycles with no gears… How European.

A giant Buddah’s back.

Both old. One natural, and one man-made.

Another stuppa.

Even the monks played tourists at Sukothai.
I STILL adore your pictures. They are amazing. Cheers to both of you — I miss you, Lou, but I wish you continued fun. 😀

Thanks t you both… it does look like the “investment” (time + money = etc..) has paid off. However, I am now forever dreaming of that fancy SLR I couldn’t quite afford!
